Most Enduring Animals

Endurance is scored 1 to 10 on documented capacity for prolonged locomotion or repeated effort: long-distance migration, pursuit hunting, and deep-dive cycling all count. Peak speed and endurance measure different traits. The cheetah, which overheats within 30 seconds at full sprint, scores far lower than the wolf or sperm whale.

Species that cover hundreds of kilometres without rest, or those that cycle deep dives continuously throughout a foraging day, reach the top. All 48 species are scored.
